So, what's inside the EuroLine 6620/United 3151 DVD-players? Basically a PCB for all the IC's needed, a power supply board and a DVD-drive.
All these pictures are from my own EuroLine 6620, so yours may not look exactly the same inside.
This is the inside of my EuroLine 6620. Power supply board to the left, DVD-drive in the middle and a board for IC's to the right. At the top there is a small card for the SCART-socket. |
The PCB that hosts all the IC's in the 6620/3151 looks like this:
PCB of my EuroLine 6620. There are a lot of IC's to get DVD out to the TV ;-) |
Here is a list of components and their function on the board above:
IC | Function |
---|---|
ESS VideoDrive ES4318F (DS) | Video Processor chip |
MediaTek MT1388E | DVD-Player Servo/Decoder/µP chip |
AVS Technology AV3168 | NTSC/PAL Video encoder |
MediaTek MT1366F | DVD-Player RF Amplifier chip |
2 x ESMT M12L16161A-7T | 512K x 16Bit x 2Banks Synchronous DRAM (143 MHz) |
ESMT M11B416256A-35J | 256K x 16 DRAM EDO PAGE MODE (72 MHz) |
Bright Micro BM29F040-90NC | 4Mbit (512k x 8) Flash (DVD Firmware) |
Winbond W27C010P-70 | 128K x 8Bit EEPROM (DVD-drive firmware?) |
ROHM BA5954FP | CD/DVD-ROM Motor/Actuator Driver |
Cirrus Logic CS4340-KS | 24-Bit, 96-KHz Stereo D/A Converter for Audio |
Texas Instrument HCU04 | Hex Inverters |
ST C4558 | Wide Bandwidth Bipolar Operational Amplifiers |
I have heard of other EuroLine 6620/United 3151 that has a CS4955 video encoder instead of the AV3168 that mine has. I also seems that a VCD/SVCD capable 6620/3151 has a soldered TSOP48 M29F800AT flash (1MB) instead of the 512kB socketed PDIP BM29F040-90NC that my 6620 has (which does not support VCD/SVCD).
I have tried to find data sheets for all the chips, but did not find any for "MediaTek MT1388E", "MediaTek MT1366F" and "BA5954FP". If you have data sheets for any of these devices, please contact me!
The DVD-drive is not a standard IDE DVD-drive as it is in many DVD players. It seems to be the same drive in all EuroLine/United players.

The DVD-drive with the tray open. |
If you look closer at the DVD-drive, there seems to be very few IC's on the drive itself. So all the IC's needed to control the drive is located on the big IC board.
Here is a closer look at the DVD head. I have taken this picture with the camera located right over the SCART-socket. |
Not much to say, it's a power supply with all the things that a power supply usually have:
The PS in my EuroLine 6620. The small card to the right on the picture is for the phones output. |
There is also a small PCB that contains the SCART-socket.
Not much to say, very simple PCB. As you can see by the number of wires and the marking on the PCB, the SCART-socket has only composite video (and of course stereo-audio also). |
If anyone has any more information about the hardware in the EuroLine or United, or can tell me if I have made any errors on this page, please contact me.
