I have read in this article that the "MediaTek is supporting WMA in its DVD-Player combo chip MT1369; the chipset is in mass production now.". Since the DVD-176 is built around the MT1369 chip, I thought that maybe the DVD-176 should be able to play WMA files.
So I encoded a couple of songs in WMA (Windows Media Audio) and burned them on a regular data CD to see if the Denver DVD-176 could play them.
Below is a table that explains the structure of the WMA CD I made, and also information about which WMA's that played as they should.

When I put the CD in the DVD-player, this is what showed up on the screen:
As you can see, the player did not even recognize any of the .wma files. Maybe this is because it should have another extension than .WMA. Any suggestions? |
So it seems that the DVD-176 players cannot play WMA files after all!
