Kodak Photo CD compatibility

The only Photo CD I have is a copy I made of a friend of mines Photo CD a couple of years ago. At that time I did not know that Photo CD's has some sort of copy protection (according to Ted's Unofficial Kodak Photo CD Homepage), so I copied the CD without thinking that much about it. So I really don't know if my copy of the Photo CD is actually a "Photo CD" if you look at it from the standards point of view.

The Photo CD specification is based on the CD-i Bridge specification to allow for the playback of Photo CD discs on CD-i players (accoording to the CD-i FAQ). This means that the DVD-176 would have to be CD-i compatible to be able to play Kodak Photo CD's, but nothing is mentioned about CD-i compatibility in the manual. In some of the 6620/6650/3151/3155 manuals they mentioned CD-i compatibility, but I suspect that it was just an error in the manual.

Anyway, when I tried my copied Photo CD in the Denver DVD-176, and this is what happened:

At least the DVD-176 did something
If I navigated down into the CD1 directory, a PCD_EXEC file showed up with a VCD icon. I navigated to it and pressed "SELECT", but after about one second I got back to the same screen again.

I also navigated down into the PHOTO_CD directory, but I did not find anything at all that made any sense.

So it seems that the Denver DVD-176 cannot play Kodak Photo CD.
