CD-i compatibility

One guy sent me a CD-i disc with a video on. He also explained a bit about what he had found out about it and other CD-i/VCD discs. This is basically what he said:

There seems to exist three different formats of CD-i/VCD discs.

	Type 1 is marked "CD-i Movies" in one corner, and "Video CD" in another. This VCD works in all DVD-players that can play VCD (WhiteBook).
	Type 2 is marked "Digital Video on CD-i", but there is no "Video CD" marking. This is a so called GreenBook CD, and cannot be read by PC's without special software to access the contents on the CD. This is the type of CD-i that I have.
	Type 3 is only marked "Video CD" (no "CD-i" marking). This is a (WhiteBook) VCD that can be played in all DVD-players that supports VCD's.

So to sum up:

• When the marking "Video CD" is on the cover (regardless of any "CD-i" marking), the CD is a so called WhiteBook-format CD, and can be played in any VCD-compatible DVD-player.
• When no "Video CD" marking is on the cover, the CD is a so called Greenbook-format CD, i.e. a CD-i disc with MPEG-video that may not conform to the standards when it comes to bitrate, MPEG-structure and/or picturesize. On the CD is also a special CD-i program which is used to play the video from the disc.

I have a disc of type 2 above (a GreenBook CD), so to be able to play this in a DVD-player, the player has to support CD-i fully.

When I insert the CD-i disc into the Denver DVD-176, This is what happens:

	The DVD-176 identifies the CD as a VCD v1.1.
	Then the player just displays this! It does not matter what I do, I cannot get anything more to happen.

So apparently, the DVD-176 does not support CD-i!
