Copy recorded files from HD to PC

NorthQ has released a very handy Windows utility! It allows you to connect the NorthQ hard-disk to your PC and copy files from it to the PC. It is even possible to copy files larger than 4GB (which usually is pretty hard as the NorthQ uses some special version of the FAT32 file-system).

To be able to copy files larger than 4GB from the NorthQ hard-disk to your PC, you have to have the following PC setup:

bullet A PC with Win2000 or WinXP.
bullet To copy files larger than 4GB, you need an NTFS formatted disk.
bullet The PvrDiskUtil utility from NorthQ.

If you have all this, just give it a shot!

bullet Remove the hard-disk from the NorthQ and connect it to your PC.
bullet Start the PC (Windows 2000 or XP).
bullet Unpack the PvrDiskUtil.exe from the downloaded zip-file.
bullet Start PvrDiskUtil.exe, this is what you will see (you may have more or fewer drives available depending on your PC setup):

In my PC I have a floppy, the Windows system disk and the NorthQ disk. The NorthQ disk is "Hard Disk 2"

bullet If you expand the "+"-signs in front of the "Hard Disk 2", you will soon get to the NorthQ "Root Directory":

bullet I want to copy the file "BAY002.DAT", so I have selected it:

As you can see it is 6.7GB in size (there seems to be a bug in the "Size (bytes)" column, as it only states 2927755264 bytes).

bullet When you click the "Copy File" button, the following window appears:

Navigate to where you want to save the file and click "Save".

bullet Now, the PvrDiskUtil starts to copy the file:

Now it's time to sit back and wait for the copying to complete! On the PC I used (a 600MHz Pentium2 with Windows2000) it took about 10 minutes to copy the file.

That's all there is to it! Pretty easy an straight forward!

This utility is exactly what we all have been waiting for, and it's nice that it finally arrived.
