Setup Menu

The NorthQ 7000/7100 can be configured in a number of ways, and this is done using the players menu system.

All the screenshots below are from my NorthQ 7100 player with the v2.01 firmware.

If you press the "SETUP" button on the remote control, this is what you get:

TOP MENU

This is the Top Menu. Here you can select what you want to do. To get to the Setup Menu, scroll down to "Setup Menu" and press "ENTER"

Here are all the setup menu choices of the NorthQ 7000/7100 with a short explanation (the selection with green background is the default value):

MAIN PAGE - General

If you enter the "General" menu, the options below will be displayed.

Picture Mode:

Selects the picture quality. The following selections are available:

bullet Auto
bullet Film
bullet Video
bullet Smart
bullet Super Smart
Angle Mark:

Selects if angle marks will appear when DVD's with multi-angle footage is played. The following selections are available:

bullet On
bullet Off
OSD Language:

Selects a language for on-screen-display. The following selections are available:

bullet English
bullet Chinese
Captions:

Selects if captions will be displayed or not. The following selections are available:

bullet On
bullet Off

(In order for this to work, the DVD disc must also support this function)

Screen Saver:

Selects if screen saver is on or off. The screen saver will start after one minute of inactivity. The following selections are available:

bullet On
bullet Off
MAIN PAGE - Speaker

If you enter the "Speaker" menu, the options below will be displayed.

Downmix:

Selects how to downmix audio. The following selections are available:

bullet Lt/Rt: Mix left and right channel.
bullet Stereo: Use Stereo sound.
bullet Off: Use 5.1 sound.
Center:

Selects if the center speaker is on or off when playing 5.1 sound. Only available if "Downmix" is set to "Off". The following selections are available:

bullet On
bullet Off
Rear:

Selects if the rear speakers is on or off when playing 5.1 sound. Only available if "Downmix" is set to "Off". The following selections are available:

bullet On
bullet Off
SubWoofer:

Selects if the subwoofer speaker is on or off when playing 5.1 sound. Only available if "Downmix" is set to "Off". The following selections are available:

bullet On
bullet Off
Center Delay:

Selects the delay for the center speaker when playing 5.1 sound. Only available if "Downmix" is set to "Off" and "Center" to "On". The following selections are available:

bullet Off
bullet 1ms
bullet 2ms
bullet 3ms
bullet 4ms
bullet 5ms
Rear Delay:

Selects the delay for the rear speakers when playing 5.1 sound. Only available if "Downmix" is set to "Off" and "Rear" to "On". The following selections are available:

bullet 15ms
Test Tone:

A test tone will be produced to check if the speakers are correctly placed. Only available if "Downmix" is set to "Off". The tone will be heard from one speaker at a time. The corresponding speaker will be highlighted on the TV screen.

MAIN PAGE - Audio

If you enter the "Audio" menu, the options below will be displayed.

Audio Out:

Select which form of audio you want from the player. The following selections are available:

bullet Analog
bullet SPDIF/RAW
bullet SPDIF/PCM
OP Mode:

Select which type of audio you want. The following selections are available:

bullet Line Out
bullet RF Remod
Dual Mono:

Reproduction mode. The following selections are available:

bullet Stereo: Reproduce booth channels as is.
bullet L-Mono: Reproduce the left channel only.
bullet R-mono: Reproduce the right channel only.
bullet Mix-Mono: Mix both channels.
Compression:

Set dynamic range compression. The following selections are available:

bullet Full
bullet 3/4
bullet 1/2
bullet 1/4
bullet Off

There is also one setting between each of the above settings.

Pro Logic:

Selects Pro Logic mode. The following selections are available:

bullet On
bullet Off
bullet Auto
Pro Logic II:

Selects Pro Logic II mode. The following selections are available:

bullet Pro Logic
bullet Virtual
bullet Music
bullet Movie
bullet Matrix
bullet Custom
Pro Logic II Control:

Controls Pro Logic II. Only available if Pro Logic II Mode is set to "Custom".

Dimension:

Adjusts the front/back balance. The following selections are available:

bullet -3
bullet -2
bullet -1
bullet 0
bullet 1
bullet 2
bullet 3
Panorama:

Wraps the sound of the front left and right speakers around you. The following selections are available:

bullet On
bullet Off
Center Width:

Allows you to gradually spread the center channel sound into the front left and right speakers. The following selections are available:

bullet 5
bullet 6

Surround Filter:

Surround Coherence:

MAIN PAGE - Preferences

If you enter the "Preferences" menu, the options below will be displayed.

TV Display:

Selects TV display format. The following selections are available:

bullet Normal/PS
bullet Normal/LB
bullet Wide
TV Type:

Selects TV type. The following selections are available:

bullet Multi System: for automatic self-select TV's.
bullet NTSC: for NTSC TV's
bullet PAL: for PAL TV's
Video Output:

Selects which signal type is output on the SCART socket. The following selections are available:

bullet S-Video
bullet YPbPr (component video)
Audio:

Selects which audio track that will be selected from a DVD disc. The following selections are available:

bullet English
bullet French
bullet Spanish
bullet Chinese
bullet Japanese

(In order for this to work, the DVD disc must also support this function)

Subtitle:

Selects which subtitle that will be shown from a DVD disc. The following selections are available:

bullet English
bullet French
bullet Spanish
bullet Chinese
bullet Japanese
bullet Off

Disc Menu:

Selects which menu that will be selected from a DVD disc. The following selections are available:

bullet English
bullet French
bullet Spanish
bullet Chinese
bullet Japanese

Locale:

Selects country for parental control works. The following selections are available:

bullet China
bullet France
bullet Hong Kong
bullet Japan
bullet Taiwan
bullet GBR
bullet USA
Parental:

Selects which level of parental control you want. The following selections are available:

bullet 1 G
bullet 2
bullet 3 PG
bullet 4 PG 13
bullet 5
bullet 6 PG-R
bullet 7 NC-17
bullet 8 Adult
bullet No Parental

(In order for this to work, the DVD disc must also support this function)

The default password for the parental control is "3308".

SmartNAVI:

Selects if the SmartNAVI file browser should be displayed when playing MP3's or showing JPEG pictures. The following selections are available:

bullet With Menu
bullet No Menu
Defaults:

This function will reset all settings in the setup menu to the default value.

If this function is selected, an extra confirmation will be required before all settings are reset to default values.

Password:

Here you can change the parental password.

The default password for the parental control is "3308".

MAIN PAGE - PVR Control

If you enter the "PVR Control" menu, the options below will be displayed.

Disk Tools:

Selects disc tool:

bullet Repair Disk
bullet Defragment
bullet Format Disk: Formats the hard disk (all data will be lost)
bullet Use USB (I don't know what this is used for, since the NorthQ 7000/7100 does not have any USB port).
Recording Mode:

I don't know what this is for! The following selections are available:

bullet XP
bullet SP
bullet LP
bullet EP

I used to think that it selects which quality that will be used when you press "REC" on the remote control, but that is controlled by the option below (Timeshift Mode).

Timeshift Mode:

Selects which quality that will be used when the timeshift function is on. The following selections are available:

bullet XP
bullet SP
bullet LP
bullet EP
Maximum Pause:

Selects the maximum amount of time the timeshift records. The following selections are available:

bullet 60 Min.
bullet 45 Min.
bullet 30 Min.
bullet 15 Min.
bullet 5 Min.
Input Source:

Selects which input to use. The following selections are available:

bullet AV1 Input
bullet AV2 Input
bullet S-Video
bullet Tuner
Source Format:

Selects which source format to use. The following selections are available:

bullet Auto
bullet SECAM
Reset Index:

Resets the functions that controls the timer recording function. This has to be done after a firmware upgrade.

Tuner Control:

Here you can scan for TV channels and setup channels. The following selections are available:

bullet Auto Scan: scans all frequencies for TV broadcasts.
bullet Channel Setup: Organize channels in the order you want them. You can also mark channels that you don't want to see when using the "Up/Down" buttons on the remote control to change TV channels.
