What's new?

021210

I have moved these pages to another ISP, where I have some more space and some other possibilities (ASP, PHP and MySQL). I don't know if I will use the extra stuff, but more space is always welcome!

As I have almost no information about the EuroLine 6722M, I would like to point out that someone have put up some information about that player at http://www.home.no/e6722m. So if you have one of those (or if you are curious about it), go there and take a look!

I could not resist the temptation, so I went to Siba and bought a EuroLine 6632 just for fun! I have now made a quick test of it and it does play both VCD's and SVCD's! All the menus looks exactly the same as they look in the 6620/6650/3151/3155 DVD players, the only thing that differs seems to be that they have changed the boring blue background to a somewhat less boring picture, which says "DVD Video powered by EUROLINE". I'll upload some pictures later.

A friend of mine bought a EuroLine 6652, and it could also play VCD's and SVCD's!

I'll examine the 6632/6652 closer and will update this site with whatever information I find, but it may take a while (a week or two).

By the way, I have not heard from a single person about any problems playing VCD/SVCD's on the 6632/6652! So hopefully they can all play VCD/SVCD's.

I have had a couple of questions about the EuroLine 6632/6652 players that they sell on Siba in Sweden right now. I have heard some contradictory facts about them. I asked at Siba if the 6632/6652 could play VCD/SVCD's and the salesman said (very rapidly) "No, it can't!". But someone in the forum reported that he had one that could play both VCD and SVCD's. So maybe that player also exists in two different "versions", one that can play VCD/SVCD's and one that can't. If anyone have a EuroLine 6632/6652 and can test these players VCD/SVCD capabilities, please report the result to me.

Another person reported in the forum that the 6632 uses the same "hack" to make it region free as the EuroLine/United players that I describe on these pages (e.g. 3,3,0,8, see the hacks page). I suppose that this works for the 6652 also. By the way, the difference between the 6632 and the 6652 is that the 6652 has a builtin Dolby Digital decoder, which the 6632 has not.

021024

If anyone is interrested in making their own JPEG CD's that starts to show the pictures automatically (without going through the "Smart Navi" menu) look in the "Kodak Picture CD" section under Compatibility. At the end of that page I have written a small explanation on how to do this.

021023

It's been a while since I updated the site, but now I'm back!

Update the compatibility section a bit, tested Kodak Picture CD, it worked perfectly! I also fixed a couple of misleading things in the compatibility section.

Added information in the Overview section about a new problem: there seems to be some EuroLine/United players that can play VCD's but not SVCD's. So there seems to be even more different "versions" of these players!

020822

Updated the compatibility section, tested a TDK DVD-RW, and the EuroLine/United had no problems reading it.

The Hacks page has also been updated. A few hundred more codes has been tried to see if there is anything interresting other than the 3308 code. Nothing sofar.

I have also added a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) to the site. I have started to fill it with questions and answers, and will continue as I find things to write there.

020820

Updated the Overview page with some more "sightings" of different types of EuroLine/United players.

020819

Updated the Compatibility section with information about DVD-MP3. DVD-MP3 is a DVD with MP3-files, but the EuroLine/United did not recognize this format

020818

I have received some help to test the EuroLine/United players with DVD+RW media. No problems, the EuroLine/United players can read DVD+RW discs. Updated the compatibility section with this information.

I also updated the Overview page with some more "sightings" of different types of EuroLine/United players.

020815

Updated Compatibility page with information of another brand of DVD-R media.

020813

Updated Compatibility page with information about DVD-R/DVD-RW. There were no problems whatsoever when I tried these medias in the EuroLine/United!

020812

Corrected some small typos and some small layout changes.

Updated the Compatibility page with information about regular audio CD's and data CD's with WMA-encoded (Windows Media Audio) files.

020811

I have made a lot of changes to the site, updating a lot of information. I have also added a lot of info about the United 3155 player.

Since this site now has info about both the EuroLine and United players, I changed the banner to reflect this.

I also found out that if you buy a EuroLine/United player that does not state VCD/SVCD on the box, it still might be able to play VCD/SVCD's! I have bought two 3155, one states VCD/SVCD on the box and the other does not. But both of them plays VCD/SVCD!

Here are the updates:

That's all!

If anyone has a CD-i disc, please contact me! The same goes for Kodak Photo CD discs and DVD+R/DVD+RW discs. I have ordered a Pioneer A04 DVD-R/DVD-RW writer myself, so as soon as it arrives I'll test if the EuroLine/United players can read DVD-R/DVD-RW.

020725

I gave up as well and bought a United 3155 DVD-player! But I'll continue to try to find a way to play regular VCD/SVCD discs on the EuroLine6620.

I updated the Compatibility page with information about playing MPEG CD's. An MPEG CD is just a bunch of MPEG1/MPEG2 files burned onto a CD. Nothing fancy, it's just like a JPEG CD, but with MPEG clips instead of JPEG images.

Also, the Hacks page have been updated. A few hundred more codes has been tried to see if there is anything interresting other than the 3308 code.

020723

A friend of mine has just bought a United 3155 DVD-player. It looks very similair to the EuroLine 6620, but the box says VCD/SVCD and it also has analogue 5.1 audio outputs (built-in Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder). It was a pretty good player, played most of the VCD/SVCD's we tried without any problems. However, when we opened it, we saw that it had the firmware chip soldered to the PCB :-( So we could not extract the firmware to try it in my 6620 player.

I have updated the Firmware and Clones page with some information about this.

Also, I missed a very important fact earlier. The M29F800AT flash which seems to be installed in the VCD/SVCD capable players, has twice as much flash memory (1MB) than the BM29F040, which only has 512kB. This might be what prevents VCD/SVCD capabilities in the 6620 (with the BM29F040), it simply does not fit in the available flash memory! But this is only a guess from my side, anyone care to comment?

I've also added a web-forum to the site, click on Forum in the left frame to get there.

020721

A few hundred more codes has been tried to see if there is anything interresting other than the 3308 code. Se hacks page for more information.

I also tested and confirmed that the player has macrovision enabled. I have no idea if it is possible to disable it somehow.

020719

It is now confirmed that there are at least two different versions of the EuroLine 6620. One has the ability to play VCD/SVCD's and the other does not have it. Of course, mine cannot play VCD/SVCD's ;-)

I have updated the Hardware page a bit, and included a page with comparisons between the two different 6620 versions (link to the comparison is on the Hardware page). I've also updated the Firmware page with more information about the firmware and flash-roms of the two different 6620 players. There are also some updates in the Clones page.

I also updated the Compatibility section with information about the 6620's MP3 compatibility.

020718

Updated Hardware page a bit with data sheets for most IC's in the EuroLine 6620.

Updated firmware page with some info about the format of an upgrade CD.

Also, it turned out that it is not possible to use the Elta 8891 firmware in the EuroLine 6620.

020717

Now I'm more confused than ever regarding the EuroLine 6620/United 3151! I went back to the store where I bought the EuroLine6620, and now they have the United 3151 in stock. Here is where it gets strange: the United 3151 box I saw does not look the same as the United 3151 box on the Clones page. Instead, it looks almost identical to the EuroLine 6620 box, except that it states "United 3151". So there seems to be two different "versions" of the United 3151, one with VCD/SVCD capabilities, and one with Kodak Picture CD capabilities.

The same thing goes for the EuroLine 6620, as I got a mail from a Danish guy, who has a EuroLine 6620 that has the following text over the tray: "DVD/SVCD/MP3/VCD/CD/CD-R & CD-RW player".

I have updated the Clones page with this info (and a bit more on other clone possibilities).

I have also updated the Hacks page with info about an effort to check all codes from 0000 to 9999 to see if there are any other useful codes than 3308 (region-free hack) on the player.

020716

I have dumped the firmware from my 6620 to see if there are anything interresting in there. It is available for download at the Firmware page if anyone wants/needs it. I also looked if there were any interresting text-strings in the firmware, and did actually find some. Look at the Firmware page for more information about this...

020713

Updated the Compatibility section with information about "Kodak Picture CD" and JPEG CD. I had mistaken "Kodak Picture CD" for "Kodak Photo CD", but found out that there is a huge difference between them. The EuroLine 6620 does NOT support "Kodak Photo CD", but supports "Kodak Picture CD" which is basically a CD with a bunch of JPEG images.

020712

Updated the Compatibility section with information about VCD, SVCD, XVCD and XSVCD.

020711

Updated the Compatibility section a bit.

020710

Updated the site with technical specifications from the manual.
