I have tried SVCD compatibility with three SVCD's downloaded from VCDHelp on the 10:th of July 2002:

I have tested these on the Denver DVD-141 and here are the results I got:
SVCD # | Test results |
---|---|
1 | When I inserted this SVCD into the DVD-141, the player recognised the CD
as an SVCD, but the screen was all black! If I pressed the "PBC" button
(PBC off) on
the remote control, the DVD started to play the clip. Very strange! So with
this SVCD I could not get to the menu of the SVCD and choose what to do. I could not see any subtitles either, no matter what I did. |
2 | The movie played fine, but I could only one listen to one audio track.
When I pressed the "AUDIO" button on the remote control, I did not get
any
sound from audio track 2. The only audio track that produced any sound was
number 1. Also, I did not get any subtitles at all. When I pressed the "SUBTITLE" button on the remote control, the player did not allow me to change the subtitle. |
3 | When I inserted this SVCD into the DVD-141, the player recognised the CD
as an SVCD, but the screen was all black! If I pressed the "PBC" button
(PBC off) on
the remote control, the DVD started to play the clip. Very strange! So with
this SVCD I could not get to the menu of the SVCD and choose what to do. I could however switch sound track between the two available tracks using the "AUDIO" button on the remote control. I could not see any subtitles either, no matter what I did. |
I also tested the DVD-141 with an SVCD that I have made myself with Nero. It had no problem whatsoever to display the menus and play this SVCD.
So, to sum up how the Denver DVD-141 plays SVCD's:
If anybody has some coments about the SVCD capabilities of the DVD-141, just send me a mail and tell me what you think.
